How to Announce Your Holiday Engagement

Congratulations! You got engaged! The holiday season is one of the most romantic times of the year to get engaged. It’s also one of the busiest, and in this time of family and friends, it’s time to start thinking about how you’re going to navigate the social norms and considerations for announcing your happy news to your loved ones. We’ve put together this guide to help you announce your engagement during the holiday season!

Social Media

Hold off on that post! While social media is the fastest way to get the news out to a number of people at once, it can also be impersonal to the people who are love you most and are the most excited for your news. Especially if you’re only days away from a gathering of family or friends, consider waiting so you can tell them yourself. This shows them how important your engagement is to you and how important those people are to you and your partner that you wanted to share with them personally.

Also, make sure that you treat each other’s loved ones as equally as you can. When you and your partner marry, you will be merging your lives and families. Making sure that both sides hear of your engagement in equitable ways will be a great way to show how much you care. Once you announce to family go ahead and post that wonderful news!

Holiday Priorities

Getting engaged is one of the highlights of your year, especially in a year as tumultuous as this one! It’s good to remember that announcing this is probably not the main reason for your holiday gathering though. Social gatherings, in person or virtually, are a great way to inform your loved ones of the happy news. It’s also okay for the subject to move on; it’s wise not to expect the entire event to become about your engagement, as joyful as everyone will be for you.

Also, if your engagement is happening during one of these functions, remember that others are also in holiday celebrations of their own. A holiday engagement card is still a great way to let all loved ones know the news. You can theme the photo and card with holiday spirit and colors. This is a great way to tie your engagement into the holiday season. Questions

You’ve shared your news! Now here comes the questions. Everyone is going to be asking you about the proposal, the ring, and about the impending wedding. It’s okay not to have your answers for the future. You just got engaged! Talk to your beloved before the announcements though and come up with answers to the common questions you’ll get asked. This will take the stress out of the bombarding questions, as well as ensure that you two are on the same page when answering them.

So What’s Next?

Again, congratulations. This is a beautiful milestone in your relationship and you should celebrate it to your heart’s content! It’s a busy end to a busy year, but take a breath. Enjoy the moment. Then you can tell everyone else you love. You’re taking a happy step towards the next chapter of your lives together and that is always worth the celebration.
